Discover the wonders of Madagascar with a combination of wildlife. Here you will explore the lush tropical rainforest of Perinet, spending two nights in the heart of the rainforest region, from here you will travel through the overgrown water ways of the Pangalanes canal and finally stop of on the lush "Robinson Crusoe" island of St Marie.
DAY 01
JOHANNESBURG - ANTANANARIVO
ANTANANARIVO - PERINET You will depart from Johannesburg International Airport for your flight to Madagascar. On arrival you will be met and transferred by car directly to the eastern rainforest region of Perinet. (Three hour drive.) The drive passes through captivating highlands scenery. You will overnight at your hotel on a dinner/bed/continental breakfast basis for 2 nights. You will have the rest of the day to explore the forests at you own leisure. Arrange with the Perinet guides to take you on a guided night walk through the forests, when you might be able to see the nocturnal creatures such as the Aye-Aye and Tenrecs (spiny hedgehogs).(Remember to pack good quality flashlights for you night walks as well as raincoats.)DAY 02
PERINET
You will have the whole day to explore the rainforest.
The walks through the forest are easy trails along which your guide
will be able to point out a variety of interesting things, that are
found nowhere else. Madagascar's rainforests are among the densest
in the world and the floral diversity is particularly rich. The island
is home to 20 % of Africa's vascular plant species of which 90 % are
endemic. Arrange to visit the rainforest at dawn, which is the best
time to see the largest of all lemurs, the ape like Indris. Endemic
birds which you will also see include the Tylas, Nuthatch, the extra-ordinary
Velvet Asity and more. You will might also be fortunate in seeing such
species as the Giraffe-Necked Weevil, the Golden Mantilla Frog and
the two foot Parson's Chameleon. Walking through the rainforest at
daybreak, as the siren-like calls emanate from the mist-enshrouded
canopy is one of the most memorable experiences one can have in Madagascar.

DAY 03
PERINET - MANAMBATHO - PANGALANES CANAL
After breakfast you will be taken by vehicle to Manambato - four hours drive - which is the beginning of your trip along the Pangalanes Canal. On arrival a speedboat will be waiting for you to transfer you to your hotel (mid market) where you will be staying 1 night on a dinner/bed/breakfast basis. The Pangalanes Canal was built during French colonial times to protect the barges from the harsh Indian Ocean storms and has now become totally overgrown. The centre of the the Pangalanes canal is Lake Ampitabe - shallow - which has broad beaches of dazzling white sands and clear water for swimming in. A visit to the small reserve nearby is also worthwhile as there are a number of species of lemur that can be seen.
DAY 04
PANGALANES - TAMATAVE - ST.MARIE
After breakfast you will be transferred from the hotel speedboat along the Pangalanes Canal to Tamatave. This trip is very scenic and takes about 2 hours. On arrival in Tamatave you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to St.Marie. On arrival in St.Marie you will be transferred from the airport to your hotel where you will be staying for 3 nights on a dinner/bed/breakfast basis.
DAY 05
ST. MARIE ISLAND
Explore St. Marie at leisure. Overnight at hotel of choice on a dinner/bed/breakfast basis.
DAY 06

St.Marie is a beautiful holiday island, 57 km long, situated off Madagascar's east coast. It has become one of Madagascar's most popular beach holiday venues. It is surrounded by abundant coral reefs and boasts what many rate as Madagascar's loveliest beaches. Most of these white, palm fringed beaches are secluded coves. St. Marie also boasts the world's only pirate graveyard, as this was once a major pirate base. Along the reefs there are excellent snorkeling possibilities. In August and September the Humpback Whales and their calves can be seen. St.Marie is known for its rare and spectacular orchids as well as reptiles and frogs.
There are no taxis on the island no bicycles or mountain bikes can be hired for getting around. Excursions to the nearby island of Ille aux Nattes, which boasts some of Madagascar's best snorkeling reefs, can be arranged through your hotel. There are no phones connecting the island to the outside world so advance booking essential !
DAY 07
ANTANANARIVO
In the afternoon you will be transferred from the hotel to the airport for your flight to Antananarivo. On arrival you will be met and transferred from airport to the hotel where you will be staying for one night on a dinner/bed/breakfast basis.
DAY 08
ANTANANARIVO - JOHANNESBURG
Early in the morning you will be transferred from
the hotel to the airport for your flight back to Johannesburg.

The morning is free for leisure and pleasure. In the afternoon you
